Like ‘Red Queen’s race’, people have to compete to maintain the current status in this excessed globalized society and also exposed to the multi-culture brings endless questions on the identity of human. Through this work, my concern is focused on the individual’s status in this circumstances. My question is what we have forgotten and what is missing while living in this over-competitive society. To answer this, I tried to pull out the memories that can be shared with others. These objects experiment to stimulate the audience’s certain part of the memory.
This project begins with selecting the objects. Mostly, I choose them based on my personal experience and related researches. Especially spending youth in Arizona, where there are very small population of Far East Asians then, is important experience on my great interest in identity of human. There are some rules; the object should not be too private and is not exclusively related to the youth or certain locations such as monuments.
It is also important to choose which part of the object should be taken. I decide the number of images regard to what is the feature of the object and the surrounding circumstances which investigates the harmony of artificial and natural aspects. When the object is exposed to the viewers, what reminds to the audience may be different depends on the direction of their viewing and the background images that surrounds the object.
This multi-layering(each taken by large format color negatives) and the color which is between sepia and warm tone brings new approach towards the object and encourages audience to feel déjà vu.
